Hi there, Dr. Ruff here! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Art Therapist. All are welcome!
Licensed Professional Counselor in Fairfax, VA
Art therapy is an integrative mental health profession that enriches the lives of clients through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. Art therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals and is used to improve self-awareness and self-esteem, promote resilience and insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress.
Many people experience trauma and few have the resources to understand and move forward from these experiences. At times, it can be difficult to even put into words what has happened. Art therapy can give voice to your experiences where words fail. I will work with you in a safe, paced, and thoughtful way to work through these experiences, regain control of your emotions, and experience relief from the often crippling symptoms you may have. You deserve to be heard and I am here to do that.
Life is full of transition points. Sometimes they go smoothly and other times they can feel like the wind has left our sails. I help adolescents and adults make these transitions with support, identifying and building upon both internal and external resources to work through these transitions with grace. Whether you are experiencing ordinary or extraordinary times in your life, we can work together through these periods so you can move forward with confidence and self-assurance.
I have extensive experience working with teenagers who are dealing with the challenges of growing up- substance use, relationships, self-esteem, family conflict, anxiety, depression- all of these things compound the natural developmental process. Creativity can be a lifesaver, especially when talking about things is hard. I have seen adolescents in inpatient, partial hospitalization, outpatient, detention, and shelter settings. I want your teenager to have support as they navigate this time.
