About My Clients
Whether life has thrown you a curve or you find yourself on a “hamster wheel” repeating unhealthy patterns, these are times when self-exploration is the means to move forward. Therapy provides an avenue to identify patterns that no longer serve you, find the strengths that can sustain you, and develop resiliency to face new challenges. It is work, but it is rewarding work that will serve to improve your relationship with others and even with yourself.
My Background and Approach
I provide counseling to adults 18 years of age and older. I draw from various theoretical and treatment modalities dependent on the client’s needs, including mindfulness based therapies, compassion focused therapy (CFT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and attachment theory. I am experienced in working with clients who have diagnoses of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizo-affective disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as individuals experiencing distress from life transitions and relationship challenges. I have special expertise in working with clients who are addicted to tobacco and want to quit. I trained at Rutgers’ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School for treatment of tobacco addiction. My approach is highly collaborative, relational, educational, and person centered.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My background was quite varied before I became a therapist. My undergraduate degrees are in film theory and criticism, as well as French language. I have worked on movies you have never heard of much less seen. I also spent many years working in Austin real estate as an appraiser and a Realtor. Outside of work, travel is my passion and cooking is my creative outlet. I love exploring new places and experimenting with new recipes and flavors I have discovered. When I'm not planning my next trip, I'm testing new recipes on family and friends, reading my book club's next selection, catching a classic movie at the Paramount, or walking the hike and bike trail around Lady Bird Lake.
