About My Clients

I work with creative, self-aware adults navigating anxiety, grief, ADHD, relationship struggles, and major life transitions — people in the middle of real change. I support individuals in shedding the legacy of emotionally immature parenting or other family dysfunction which ofter results in traumatic emotional responses that continue long after we have left home. I provide a safe, inclusive space for individuals of all genders, sexual identities, backgrounds, and ethnicities.

My Background and Approach

I became a therapist because I am endlessly curious about people I’ve always been interested in how we make sense of things, how we perceive and interpret things, the stories we tell ourselves. Why we do what we do. How change actually happens — and why, even when we desperately want it, it can still be so hard. I've spent my life paying attention to people — as a writer, editor, naturalist, massage therapist, and college writing instructor. My ten years as a massage therapist gave me a deep understanding of how stress, grief, and trauma live in the body. That shapes how I work as a therapist. Using IFS, mindfulness, and a holistic, integrated approach towards wellness, we work on understanding who you are now, why that makes so much sense given what you have experienced, and we work toward who you want to be, your preferred version of yourself and your life. I'm warm, genuine, pragmatic, humorous, and direct.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a staunch believer in and cheerleader for the human capacity for change. That said, I also know that no matter how motivated we are, we often find ourselves hijacked by emotional responses and inner parts which have other ideas about what's best for us. Most of us know what we could be doing better, and yet we often find ourselves struggling to enact those things. That is not a sign that you are weak or lazy or inherently flawed; it means you're human. This is a wild ride. Good news is you don't have to do this alone. Alongside that, I am a proponent of each us finding our people, feeling genuinely connected, of us pursuing our own versions of wellness (note: big fan of sleep, exercise, and time outside, here). Also worth noting: I am on the far left of the sociopolitical spectrum. Frankly I don't see how any sentient being can at this point in history not be deeply concerned about the welfare of our fellow humans and animals alike. I believe the personal is political.
