Motivational Interviewing is a type of therapy that focuses on helping individuals clarify their goals and make concrete behavioral changes. These behaviors vary widely, but they often include drug use, health-related behaviors, and addictive behaviors. Its goals are to support individuals in working through conflicting feelings, evaluating their options for action, and finding motivation to make desired change.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (often shortened to DBT) is a skills-based approach to psychotherapy that includes aspects of mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy. DBT was originally developed for individuals coping with borderline personality disorder, but its use has since been expanded to include treatment for a wide variety of individuals.
We will work collaboratively to identify which patterns of thinking and behavior contribute to negative moods. CBT offers specific techniques to examine and adjust these unhelpful beliefs and thoughts – called cognitive distortions – through the processes of cognitive restructuring.

It is easy to assume that depression relates directly to sadness, grief, or similar problems. Unfortunately, it may have symptoms that you overlook or assume relate to other conditions or concerns. Feeling fatigued or facing challenges with insomnia may not be an obvious symptom; however, it is a common problem that may arise when you have depression. You may even assume that irritability stems from other factors. We will use CBT and other modalities to help you address these symptoms.
I will help you identify the potential factors that may contribute to addiction or substance abuse, and then guide you through evidence-based strategies to make positive changes. I will focus on helping you reach your personal goals, and recognize that your goals may emphasize moderation or abistinance in certain situations.
