About My Clients
I provide addiction counseling, substance use counseling, mental health therapy, trauma and PTSD therapy, and individual and couples therapy for adults and adolescents experiencing family estrangement, distancing, reconciliation, and major life transitions. I help deep thinking creatives with an affirming BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ focus. I have experience, understanding and empathy for those living in hypersensitivity at the peculiar intersection between creativity, addiction and spirituality.
My Background and Approach
Within a collaborative, person-centered, judgment-free space, I embody the opposite of your negative core beliefs; I see you in a context of unconditional positive regard. I combine this with a solution-focused perspective of amplifying strengths, so that together we can both define a vision of your healthy self as the exception to the suffering caused by your problems, and enact that vision. We want your healthy self to be in charge of your life. Your healthy self is always within you, like a seed, or like the sun being covered by the clouds. And the more we focus there, from the inside out, the more you start to emerge. I also value humor, and perhaps most of all, meaning-making.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My beliefs and work are strongly influenced by Jungian psychology, particularly the idea of the shadow—the parts of ourselves we have learned to reject, hide, or experience as unacceptable. I see substance use and mental health challenges as attempts to cope with overwhelming emotional pressures, shame, disconnection, and experiences that may often feel like pressures experienced as coming from outside oneself. When these struggles remain unrecognized or unsupported, they can deepen into cycles of despair, avoidance, and self-alienation. This pressure may be in the form of your own negative core beliefs, or the pain of not being able to show up for your hobbies, passions, your partner, yourself, or even your own kids. My belief is that healing comes from the opposite of this external pressure, embodied in our Healthy Selves.
