About My Clients
When working with my clients who are struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating and/or body image distress I create a compassionate space for them to explore their emotions and histories around food and their bodies. From there we work collaboratively to shift patterns of thinking and behaviors that cause them distress. While working with children on the Autism spectrum I incorporate play therapy and/or behavior therapy depending on the need as well as collabortively with the family.
My Background and Approach
I attended Antioch Univeristy, Los Angeles where I earned a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Trauma Studies. Additionally, for seven years I worked as a behavior therapist with children on the Autism Spectrum and other developemental delays. From there I worked in a residential treatment center for teens struggling with eating disorders. My empathetic, playful approach assists my clients in feeling heard and comfortable within the therapeutic relationship. I work with a psychodynamic lens in order to help my clients understand their history and how it is impacting their present. I utilize a person-centered approach to promote my clients' self agency while working together toward their goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I work to maintain cultural competency in order to provide informed, sensitive care when working with diverse populations in an effort to help my clients feel understood and safe. I know from experience how scary it can be to search for a therapist for yourself and start your journey on healing or bettering yourself in some capacity. For this reason I take a slow, compassionate aproach with my clients. Whether they are trying to heal from an eating disorder or severe anxiety I allow my clients to ease into the process and take initiative on the challenges they want to share with me and work through. I believe the theraputic relationship I have with my clients will guide us as we callobortively work through challenging areas.
