My Background and Approach
Marisa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Minor in Visual Art Therapy, as well as a Minor in Expressive Art Therapy, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in holistic approaches. Marissa graduated from Lesley University, with experience providing services in residential programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, community-based health services, and outpatient care. She has provided therapeutic intervention to a broad spectrum of ages with a current focus on clients 18 years and older. Marisa is licensed in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Marisa understands that starting a therapeutic relationship can feel vulnerable and overwhelming. With empathy, she offers a strength-based, person-centered approach that values the mind-body connection. She works to treat the person beyond the present symptoms and respectfully paces intervention based on the client’s needs and requests. Through talk therapy, Marisa connects with humanistic theory, offering a safe, nonjudgmental environment. She can incorporate expressive art techniques in sessions. She supports client progress with a gentle, encouraging, and compassionate stance to maximize coping ability and maintain optimal mental health functioning.
