About My Clients
Have you come into adulthood feeling like you don't belong or are different from your peers? Has your family background put you outside of the mainstream? Have you tried to pretend and fit in, but never felt like you were successful at it? Have you felt rejected for differences you have had no control over? You can start to feel at home in your body and lose the anxiety that keeps you separate from others. Somatic and creative practices can help you come home to yourself and feel alive.
My Background and Approach
I believe strongly in the power of creativity to open and allow processes of growth to untangle our past. I grew up in a rigid, fundamentalist family where feelings were not allowed full expression. It is my desire to help you find ways to be more spontaneous and in touch with your true needs and desires--neither holding back or acting out. I have worked a lot with those who feel stuck creatively, and with children of immigrants to reclaim important values and lose the sense of shame about being different or not enough. I am a parent and recognize the difficulty in raising secure children in a complicated world with little societal support. Parenting can look easy from the outside, but when you are in the trenches with the voices of authority figures and family members in your head, and your own pain triggering you, it is easy to say and do things not in alignment with your values. We can work together to help you understand your behavior and become a more understanding parent.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe strongly in diversity and the enrichment that can happen in a multi-ethnic society. My practice is highly diverse and I would not have it any other way. Inclusion is one of my strongest values. I don't want to change you, but to empower you to choose what you value and take away shame and stigma that keep you in hiding. I believe strongly in the power of movement, mindfulness and breath as well as the creative arts to help us heal.
