About My Clients
I am dually trained in psychodynamic and CBT, and also DBT, EFT, and interpersonal/relational psychoanalytic psychotherapies. I have served many clients with schizophrenia and psychosis, mood, personality, and anxiety disorders, ADHD, parents and couples, students, LGBTQIA, multicultural and non-normative populations in both hospitals and clinical settings. In my Greenpoint private practice location, I offer weekly individual or couples/relationship therapy sessions and virtual sessions.
My Background and Approach
I use an Integrative model of therapy that combines traditional psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), and interpersonal/relational therapies to customize our work to your needs. I have also received intensive training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) with Dr. Sue Johnson, Horneyian Therapy (based on the work of Karen Horney), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, Schema Therapy, Trauma Art Narrative Therapy (TANT), and Brief, Solution-Focused Therapy. In my opinion, not every problem is a nail so why have only one hammer? I have been a lifelong learner of how to merge evidence-based therapies with alternative “new-wave” therapies, such as the burgeoning intersection of western neuropsychology and eastern philosophies. My treatment involves a comprehensive approach to improving health, taking into consideration culture, identity, environment, nutrition, pharmacology, and physical health.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that relationships catalyze personal growth, and that you should choose a therapist that feels the most right for you. Therapists are as unique as their clients, and we all have different personalities and styles and ways of navigating the world. I consider myself to be professional but not formal, straight-forward and deeply caring, and my patients feel completely comfortable being themselves. I also run a group practice that has many therapists with different specialties and backgrounds (see bkintegrative.com for bios!). We aim to offer a range of services and rates to be able to serve as many people as we can.
