About My Clients
Are you seeking help with stress, anxiety, addiction, or struggling with difficult relationships at home, at work, or with family members? Are you striving to reach your full potential as a student or career professional? Do you have a family member or friend who struggles with addiction and you desire guidance? No matter what your purpose or dilemma, I am so glad you're here. I offer coaching, counseling, and psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.
My Background and Approach
With a toolkit that draws upon disciplines in Bowen Family Systems Theory, behavioral psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, organizational psychology, addiction treatment, and trauma-informed psychotherapy, I help individuals and couples accomplish wellness goals, climb ladders of their own choosing, and experience more joy and less pain. Your goals might include improving the ability to manage stress, tolerate distressing situations, manage anxiety or other difficult emotions, grieve healthily, improve relationships, overcome a traumatic experience, or perhaps something else. Treatment plans will be based upon achieving your goal and the treatment approach will be decided upon together. I hold a MA in Applied Behavioral Science (LIOS, 2007) and a second MA in Counseling Psychology (Bastyr, 2020). In addition, I have extensive postgraduate training in family systems theory from the Bowen Center in Washington, D.C. and substance use and recovery.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am culturally humble and affirming, and I strive to be a lifelong learner. I am middle aged and in the generative stage of adult development where my deepest joy comes from giving back. I know therapy is hard. It takes internal motivation (not just being pushed by others) to even begin, and dogged determination to stay with the process when change seems slow and things appear to get worse before they get better. I believe the best therapy takes a systemic, multigenerational and cultural approach to explore all aspects of one's environment and belief system--then and now. I also believe the best therapy is hands-on and delivers skills, so I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for that purpose. I believe that trauma can be overcome with a combination of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and interpersonal therapy. Most importantly, I believe a successful approach is one we determine together.
