Clinical Social Worker in Marion, OH
Supervised by Margaret Nevin, LISW-S
I am trained in the evidence-based practice of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat PTSD. This is an evidence-based practice that has been shown to reduce the distress of traumatic memories that lead to PTSD by helping your brain re-process those memories in a different way. My clients have told me that they love that this treatment doesn't require them to talk in detail about the trauma, which can be triggering for many.
I have worked with numerous individuals to help them raise their self-esteem and improve or even create a sense of self-worth. I can help clients to identify negative beliefs about themselves that don't match up with reality, challenge them, and use more positive, realistic thoughts with themselves. I have also used EMDR to help clients re-process traumatic events that effect their self-esteem.
I help couples with presenting problems of unhealthy communication and physical/emotional intimacy issues. I help couples achieve this by teaching them healthy communication skills and how they use them. I also help couples look at the root of intimacy issues, ways to address this, and ideas for re-connecting.
I have been using EMDR for several years now to help clients heal from trauma and PTSD. Using eye movements, I help clients to re-process traumatic experiences without having to explain it in detail. My clients say this is a great relief to them to not have to go into the nitty-gritty details. There is also no work a client has to do in-between sessions to work on trauma, which clients have also told me they appreciate. I'd love to help you heal too!
I have used Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills with both individual clients and couples for many years. These skills can be so helpful in learning how to manage intense emotions, practice mindfulness, and improve communication skills in a practical, understandable way.
I have used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues due to negative thinking patterns. I have seen many clients report relief by learning how to identify these thoughts, challenge them, and replace them with more positive, realistic thoughts.
I use a therapy treatment called Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help treat PTSD. It helps your brain reprocess past, traumatic memories using eye movements. The best part is that you don't have to go into great detail about the traumatic event, and there is no homework to do between sessions! I have had many clients say they have found quicker, more profound relief from these memories than through traditional talk therapy.
I have experience helping adults who struggle with anxiety of how they are going to complete the million things they need to do. This can lead them to feel bad about themselves, and they can struggle to complete those tasks. I help clients with anxiety to feel better by teaching them coping skills, helping them identify and reframe thoughts that make them anxious, and looking at lifestyle changes they can make to feel less anxious.
I am able to help my clients identify the problems they face and look at tangible steps they can put into place to help them solve their problems. Clients tell me that they like I get down to the ground level with them to give them tools and strategies to help them get to where they want to be.
