About My Clients

Do you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, worry and fears? Do you have thoughts that feel intrusive and bother you a great deal? Do you sometimes feel compelled to behave in ways that you don’t understand? If this is you, you may have one of many, very common anxiety disorders that are highly treatable. You can recover and live your life without feeling overwhelmed by emotions. You can expect active and lively therapy sessions with a good deal of humor thrown in too!

My Background and Approach

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an umbrella term for many approaches that have been studied and proven effective for OCD and anxiety disorders. I have intensive training in CBT through the Beck Institute and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) through the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety Disorders. I also utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness in my work. We will work together to determine the issues you want to work on and the best approach to use. I like to think of you as the driver and I am Google Maps. I will offer what I think is the best approach but you are in charge and can choose a different route at any time. Coming to therapy is much like learning to play tennis. If you go to your tennis lesson once a week and practice often between sessions, you will likely improve your skills. In therapy, I give between session work to help you learn the skills we are working on.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe it is never too late to become the person you were meant to be. Effective therapy can help you realize that goal. I utilize evidenced based approaches because I have seen them work in my life and the lives of many people I have served. I do not have a one approach fits all mentality. There are many different tools we can draw from to find the ones that work right for you. We won't go months on the same path if it is not working. I continuously assess and if you are not making progress and feeling better, we may need to try a different approach. I want you to get back to living a meaningful life as quickly as possible. You will have all the tools you need to be your own therapist and keep the life you want. Therapy is work but it does not have to be dull and boring. I hope we can have fun, laugh a great deal and enjoy the process as well.
