About My Clients

Have you lived putting your best foot forward but still struggle to understand why you don’t feel ok enough? Are you disheartened that habits you’ve outgrown still have a hold on you? Are you often told that you’re angry, shut down, or unwell but can’t understand why you may be so? I want to sit with you as we finally get to the bottom of these experiences so you can find more trust for yourself, feel more at ease with others, and believe you really can do life.

My Background and Approach

Together we’ll explore body-based skills and self-talk practices that help you find the safety and understanding already within you. We’ll also explore and process the ways that your experiences are showing up right now in your body and use that as an anchor for deeper understanding for what you’ve been through and how you’re getting through life. I have extensive training in experiential, mind-body approaches that can bring gradual relief from the impact of the past by fostering deep self-understanding. I strive to provide a safe, attuned space where you can express what troubles you without judgment or dismissal in return. We’ll go at your pace and carefully attend to whatever comes up, no matter how scary or activating. My hope is that with time and focused attention, you’ll gain freedom from the harmful influences of your past and become a more genuinely confident version of yourself.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a gay, Black, male-bodied person who has spent my lifetime adjusting to parental substance addiction, the witnessing of domestic violence, and religious exclusion. Through my own years of therapy, mindfulness, and self-help, I’ve learned that trauma can be used as material for a richer, more fulfilling life. As Resmaa Menakem stresses, “You are NOT defective”. The behaviors you dislike the most are not pathological, but natural adaptations to overwhelming experiences and environments. Experience has taught me that awareness is the basis for change, and I rely on this knowing in my practice. Much progress can be had from being in your experience while watching along with a caring, gentle presence. While I trust in the power of the approaches I employ, I know only limited change can be had without a trusting, honest relationship with the therapist. Thus, I strive to create an antiracist, queer-affirming space that centers you, exactly as you are right now.
