About My Clients
I specialize in working with the particular challenges, stressors, and pleasures of working as a creative professional - including (but not limited to) artists, designers, filmmakers, actors, chefs, writers, as well as those working in galleries and museums. I also specialize in working with individuals, families, and couples living with/adjusting to disability and chronic illness -- particularly vision and hearing loss.
My Background and Approach
The basis of my style as a therapist is conversational and collaborative. It’s important for me to understand who you are – your interests and desires in addition to your struggles – and for you to feel open and comfortable enough to ask questions and feel you have agency in your own mental and emotional health. I have undergone training and incorporate when appropriate modalities such as EMDR, DBT, CBT, Jungian Analysis, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Psychological Astrology.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
It’s only in the recent past that we’ve seen a growing collective literacy in emotional intelligence. This is wonderful overall, but the act of going to therapy is still a very personal one. Finding the right fit for our complex needs is a relational process, and not always an easy one. One of my strongest values as a therapist is finding and giving language to the uniqueness in everyone. I am a curious, patient, and intuitive practitioner. It’s incredibly important to me that I foster a trustworthy environment so as to allow for the vulnerability necessary to move through the most challenging ways in which we undo ourselves. It’s within the therapeutic framework that we can observe ourselves with compassion, and without the entanglements intrinsic to the connections we have with everyone else. Better understanding ourselves and our patterns is crucial to developing meaningful bonds with others. Strong relationships are the most holistic healing we can provide.
