About My Clients
Are you sick of being at the mercy of your emotions? Are you coping in ways that might feel good initially, but aren't really helping? For example, acting out on anger, ruminating, isolating, and avoiding? Maybe you've done talk therapy in the past and haven't found it helpful enough, or are new to therapy and intimidated by what to expect. If this resonates, you're in the right place.
My Background and Approach
I’ve been providing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to individuals and groups in outpatient and intensive inpatient settings since earning my Master's in Social Work in 2022. What I love about DBT is that it works; I’ve done it myself. So often, I meet with clients who say they've been in traditional talk therapy for years and, while they've found some relief through it, ultimately it hasn't led to the behavioral change they were hoping for. For example, they may still struggle with anger outbursts, self-injury, rumination, addiction, avoidance, etc., because they haven’t learned techniques for managing the distress driving these behaviors. Using DBT-based skills, I’ll help you learn practical ways to cope that support lasting, sustainable behavioral change while also easing symptoms. Imagine no longer being at the mercy of your emotions! And don’t worry, we’ll still have plenty of time to talk and process what’s weighing on you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I can’t expect you to be honest and vulnerable if you feel awkward and/or uncomfortable talking with me! I believe therapy works best when you feel like you’re talking to a real human, and I like to bring my personality into the room. That said, here's a bit about me and how it impacts how I show up with you in the room. I don't take myself too seriously, and I don't want you to view me as an authority figure, but rather as your teammate. Let's work together. I think that at the right time and place, humor can be incredibly helpful in therapy. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm a strong supporter of queer and transgender rights. I also believe Black Lives Matter, and no human is illegal. You're going to be affirmed, validated, and supported in my practice. Outside of therapy, I enjoy making tiny clay figurines (it's oddly relaxing), dabbling in stand-up comedy, traveling, and trying new cafes and restaurants.
