About My Clients
My clients are often perceptive, self-aware, and creative. Yet, due to many factors, they struggle with self-compassion and fulfillment. Many experience a daily a stream of negative thoughts and self-criticisms. Many have developed self-defeating patterns to cope with intense emotion. In our work together, I help people come back to their truest, best selves-- to find steady ground and reconnect to what is most vital and alive in them.
How I Can Help You
I help people work with their emotions rather than fight with them. I help people trust their own best instincts and find the courage and discipline to repair their lives and relationships. My work with all clients-- individuals, couples, and families-- is grounded in systems theory-- the idea that all things are most fully understood embedded in context and in relationship. I am trained to work skillfully with interpersonal cycles. My approach is depth-oriented, meaning I am more interested in addressing root causes of dysfunction than simply managing symptoms. I am trained in experiential, psychodynamic therapy with an emphasis on attachment patterns. I am also trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and frequently layer EMDR and other somatic techniques with talk therapy methods to produce lasting, felt change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the transformative power of good-faith dialogue, honesty, and respect for human life. I believe people are inherently worthwhile, and that each person holds within them something the world desperately needs. Playwright David Mamet says it well: "Do not internalize the industrial model. You are not one of the myriad of interchangeable pieces, but a unique human being, and if you've got something to say, say it, and think well of yourself while you learn to say it better."
