About My Clients
My clients usually have some sort of trauma background, whether through domestic or sexual violence, discrimination due to body size/ability/race/gender expression, or if they have experienced religious trauma. If you don't fit into any of those categories, contact me anyways. We will see if I am a good fit for you. My clients and I work together to slowly start to trust our bodies and make them less like a battleground and more like a home.
My Background and Approach
My approach is client-focused and centered around the unique voices of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences. My hope is that we will work together to find tools to help you manage how your body responds to your experiences. I have spent years assisting clients with tuning into their bodies and their emotions. I have attended trainings that expanded my knowledge about how trauma shows up in every day life and how we can release the events long after they have happened. I am consistently growing and expanding my knowledge base to incorporate new ideas. Ultimately, we will work together to decide what works best for you. If a particular treatment modality does not work, we will try something else. Throughout my career, I have worked with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, refugees, and clients with complicated mental illness diagnoses. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so we will find a good fit together. You deserve it.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the human capacity for change. Often times, we are socialized into how we are supposed to think and act, yet we are not married to those ideas for our lifetime. I thrive in the uncertainty between an assured idea and a new thought, the time when the questioning exists. Our brains are so dynamic and malleable, but our social situations may not be. All of those things matter and affect who you are. As a child, I grew up in a community that was lower income, stigmatized mental health resources, and suffered the consequences as a result. Bigotry, hatred, and discrimination were taught at childhood. Once I was able to free myself of the ideas, I realized that I love ALL people and all deserve care and compassion. I believe in Fat Liberation and other justice movements. I believe that we can do better. The future is not set in stone. If you would like to learn more about me, please email me.
