Welcome! My name is MacKenzie Knapp & I am an Individual & Relational Therapist. I am based in Tacoma, WA.
Marriage & Family Therapist in Tacoma, WA
My goal is to empower clients to both understand and communicate their needs within their relationships. I focus on attachment experiences, trauma, & family history & how it is observed through communication styles, relational & security needs, etc.
I believe that we all have anxiety to some degree & that is shows up differently in all of us (severity, presentation, etc). Anxiety is a perfectly normal stress response. However, when our stress-response is over-regulated or out of control, it's asking for us to pay attention. My focus with clients is to normalize anxiety & understand its scope of influence. Understanding this helps us take back control of your health & works towards developing a different relationship with anxiety.
Your story is important to me. The experiences that you have gone through & the trauma you have endured impact the relationship that you have with yourself & with others. Through this process we can work towards deconstructing harmful internalized messages & re-author your story to acknowledge your courage, strengths, & resiliency.
I believe that the framework for the relationships that we saw & experienced growing up influences how we approach & feel secure in our romantic relationships.
Understanding how our early attachment experiences impact our individual and relational selves leads to more empathetic engagement in relationships, self-compassion, & enhances our ability to communicate & be understood by our partners & loved-ones.
Understanding a client's narrative by deconstructing their negative internalized messages & empathizing with how these have impacted them can help clients reconstruct a new narrative that emphasizes their strengths, resiliency, and positive qualities.
