About My Clients
My experience has centered around shame and its impact on the body, mind, and soul. Constantly striving to "be better”, to be accepted by others, and never feeling good enough can be damaging to one’s sense of self. Symptoms of shame include substance abuse, eating disorders, depression, anger, anxiety, self harm, and many other coping skills that are not helpful. Whatever you are going through, and whatever your experiences have been, I will meet you where you are at.
My Background and Approach
I, myself, am in recovery from shame and perfectionism. Professionally, I come from a background of working with substance abuse disorders, eating disorders, and trauma. My focus is on familial, societal, and personal expectations that have, and are currently, preventing self acceptance and authenticity. I value honesty, compassion, and understanding. I will provide a balance of empathy accountability, and (if helpful) some cathartic swearing. My goal is to give you the tools to get your own needs met, to hold space for however you show up in session, and to help you work towards accepting and loving your authentic self.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all people are capable of growth and change. Change starts with self exploration, insight, and self compassion. We all have skills and habits that have become ingrained in our daily living. These skills that we have developed may have served us in the past, and were potentially vital to our survival. Eventually, survival skills stop working when we are no longer in a state of danger, and they can work against having a fulfilling life. Through willingness and insight, we can work together to create a life filled with meaning and authentic connection.
