Self-Esteem is inseparable from almost any other issue I work with. Almost everyone struggles with self-esteem and many of us compare ourselves to our friends, our neighbors, and people we don't even know. It leads to negative thoughts and sometimes depression. It impacts our relationships and the ability to live a fully authentic life where we are able to really show up. This is core to my work and will be woven in with everyone I work with.

I have a long background in early childhood education working with children and parents. I work with single parents, guardians of any sort or couples together. I especially love working with mothers with identity work. So often, mamas give so much of their time and energy to their children that they come to a place of losing who they are. We can work together to find ways to stay true to who you are while still being the parent (and/or partner) that you want to be.

The core of the work we will do is centered around connection. One of my favorite quotes from the movie Into the Wild is "happiness is only real when shared." That quote has stuck with me for half my life and has guided the way I work with clients. We are social, we crave connection - and deep connections. One way we work on relationships is through the counseling relationship itself by practicing direct and empathetic communication. We will then work to transfer these skills outside of therapy.

The other piece that I feel can be missed in humanistic theories are societal and systemic factors that can be outside of our control. Sometimes while we may wish to change our circumstances that may not be realistic according to our current society. Discrimination, low SES, sexual harassment and many other factors can have a severe impact on our mental health. Feminist Therapy addresses this and I view my role as a counselor beyond the therapy room to advocacy.

At my base I am a humanistic counselor. I see people as genuinely good and I believe we are capable of change and personal growth and happiness. As your counselor I will provide you with an open, empathetic and nonjudgmental space to process trauma, to explore deep & unspoken feelings, and to be seen. I pull from person-centered, Maslow, and existential in my work as a multi-dimensional humanistic therapist.

While I rely heavily on humanistic therapy, I feel like it misses a few pieces. To provide a more holistic therapy, I use attachment theory to examine your past, focusing on relationships with caregivers and look at your current relationships now. Relationships are intrinsically linked in the work we do and are a source of growth and healing.
