About My Clients
I work with children, adolescents, and adults who have various mental health concerns, and who may be: struggling to find balance and fulfillment in their relationships, or career. Be unable to experience emotions safely, or to experience their emotions fully. Be overly confused, irritable, angry, lost, anxious, or sad. Been traumatized by a past event or situation. Behave in ways that don't match their core values, and want to change, or engage in self harm behaviors, like cutting to cope.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in various settings, such as, out patient community mental health agencies, residential settings, inpatient hospital units, and on a crisis response team. I am trained in person centered and psychodynamic approaches to talk therapy, as well as intermodal expressive arts therapy, and play therapy. I have completed specialized training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and have focused training in treating Personality Disorders. I often utilize aspects of Schema-Focused therapy, Mentalization based therapy and Transferance-focused psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, DBT, CBT, and REBT. I am always striving to learn more and grow as a clinician. I consistently attend new trainings, get peer support, and seek out supervision from more experienced clinicians as needed.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe most troubling thoughts and behaviors, are actually the person attempting to find a feeling of safety, fulfillment, or relief. Behaviors or personality traits that are troubling, often have roots in survival, created with the protection of the whole person, or whole system, in mind. Troublesome behaviors or thoughts not rooted in the past, are often rooted in genetics. Regardless of origin, I believe change and shifts can occur, and that people are not prisoners to behaviors or thoughts that trouble them. They can find new ways of being with themselves and others. They can unfold and grow at a pace that feels comfortable and safe. I offer insights, alternate perspectives, reflections, and assessments. However, I believe you are the expert on yourself, so I will always encourage you to think for yourself to determine if something I have to offer is valuable to you. I will always graciously accept feedback so that I can adjust my approach to better help you.
