About My Clients
I best serve clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma, among other concerns. I really enjoy working with neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clients! Issues I might refer out for would be substance use or eating disorders that require medical supervision during treatment. I am willing to consider family therapy or couples' counseling after a consultation but find I work best just focusing on your individual needs first before branching out!
My Background and Approach
I have training in MI, CBT, DBT, and TFCBT, among a smattering of experience with other models. I use an integrative, humanist approach and try to balance solution-focused problem-solving with zooming out and looking at the big picture because sometimes we don't need a coping skill right at that moment, we need to be heard and seen. I use a person-centered approach; you will determine the goals we work towards and we can change them at any time. I believe in radical honesty - if something isn't working for you in the therapeutic relationship, I want you to tell me! I will check in for feedback often and we can pivot at any time. Therapy is the one space in this world that is just about you, not anyone else, so it is critical that you are comfortable and feel that working with me is advancing your progress. I have been in therapy feeling like I am just spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere which is why as a therapist I try to hold the compass - but you choose our destination.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am queer and neurodivergent myself, so I enjoy working with clients who share these identities. I am mixed race and particularly enjoy exploring the dynamics that come with being a "third culture" individual in this world. I believe all human beings have dignity and worth, and that everyone should have what they need to succeed and survive in this world. I believe that we live in a fundamentally flawed society and that our economic system is at the root of a lot of suffering and mental health struggles that people face! I believe that therapy is political, that therapy is a form of community care, and that food access, access health care, and access to education are forms of suicide prevention.
