My Background and Approach
I have been fortunate to have varied careers and experiences with people in my life, however the one common thread in them all is people. I have worked in food service, church staff, foster system organizations and multiple mental health organizations of varying populations. I love people from all walks of life and ages! My therapeutic approach is relational. I view our work together as a partnership in assisting the client in discovering and identifying more effective ways in which to find solutions and improve functioning to live life to your greatest satisfaction. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, geared to your specific need and personality. I earned a Masters of Counseling from the University of Alabama Birmingham, a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I respect and honor your journey and consider it a privilege to be entrusted with your concerns.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we all reach points in life where we need assistance sometimes! Having been through the therapeutic process myself, I understand the fear and the unknowns of starting the process, yet work to demystify it! I have lived out my belief that all people have value and worth, in my extensive volunteer history with the homeless, Habitat for Humanity and working with children in the foster system. In building my career path, I have chosen to step outside of my comfort zone a to stretch my compassion and understanding. I did my practicum and internship with adults with developmental disabilities, and as a white woman, completed my practicum for seminary in an AME church. I feel privileged to have the wealth of experiences I have had, while developing a deeper understanding and compassion for people. That experience brings with it a compassion and rich experience to assist in developing a deeper understanding and partnership with others on their therapeutic journey.
