About My Clients
It is my honor to work primarily with LGBTQ clients, especially those exploring their gender identity and looking for an affirming place to celebrate their self-discovery journey. I often work with clients who have experienced religious trauma, intergenerational trauma, sexual trauma, and emotional neglect. Seeking support is hard, so you already have a lot to be proud of!
My Background and Approach
My experience as a client and a clinician has taught me that the relationship between client and therapist is the most important part of therapy. If you aren't comfortable with me, then we can't make the progress you deserve. I do my best to be open with my clients in a way that invites them to share themselves with me and know they are in good company. We have all experienced pain and we are all doing our best. I often find myself encouraging my clients to go easy on themselves. If you're not able to meet expectations, we can change the expectations. By understanding our context, our culture, our family, our history, we can begin to take the pressure off of ourselves to meet impossible standards. You are good enough as you are.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We live in a complicated world with a long complicated history and we understand ourselves better when we are given the chance to understand that context. As your therapist, I take on the responsibility to check my own biases and privileges so that our sessions can be a place for you to be yourself, safely. My ongoing goal is to create a practice routed in LGBTQ affirmation, antiracism, antifascism, and radical love for my fellow human.
