Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a treatment which incorporates both cognitive theory and behavioral theory. CBT is used to reveal the one's underlying skewed beliefs and thoughts which contribute to negative feelings and undesired behaviors. Through CBT, people learn to alter them in order to improve mood and functioning.
Throughout life, personal experiences become personal stories. People give these stories meaning and the stories help shape a person’s identity. Narrative therapy uses the power of these stories to help people discover their life purpose. This is often done by assigning that person the role of “narrator” in their own story.
Psychodynamic therapy is an in-depth form of talk therapy based on the theories and principles of psychoanalysis. Therapists assist people to gain insight into their lives and present-day problems as well as to understand the nature of their feelings. It often involves examining past experiences to discover their impact upon a person and their recurring patterns of coping. Understanding their maladaptive defense mechanisms helps to elicit positive change.
