About My Clients

I have experience working with clients of varying ages, socioeconomic statuses, cultural backgrounds, and levels of functioning. One of my biggest clinical strengths is working with adolescents and young adults. I have a great deal of experience helping those struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and other life stressors. I am continuously learning and have recently focused on expanding my expertise in working with trans-folks due to a lack of resources outside of Chicago.

My Background and Approach

As an adolescent, I saw my peers struggle with depression and self-harm and realized that sometimes people need more help than their friends can give them. At a young age I decided I wanted to be a therapist which put me on the path to receive my Master of Education degree in Counseling at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. My professional experiences have included victim advocacy in St. Louis, ABA therapy with autistic children, and assessment for in-patient hospitalization. Moving into out-patient counseling in 2012 has been extremely rewarding and I truly love what I do. As a therapist, I find it is important to be flexible and address psychosocial, biological, developmental, spiritual, and cultural issues as appropriate. While counseling is often very serious, laughter and humor can be important in good mental health and will likely be a part of our therapeutic relationship. It is important for me to create an atmosphere where my clients feel safe and welcome.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am honored to work with anyone willing to share themselves with me and look forward to help you with healing and growth. It is always inspiring when someone takes the brave step of reaching out for help. I have been known to keep cardboard and a sharpie in my car just in case I need to make a protest sign. I believe Black Lives Matter and have been working to dismantle internalized white superiority. The first Pride was a riot and, while I'm glad to see how far we've come, there is so much still to do while legislatures try to deny healthcare to and even the existence of transgender and gender nonconforming individuals. Women deserve equal rights and I have demanded support of this to legislators face-to-face. I have learned a lot about politics in the last 5 years and am not afraid to make my voice heard. When I am not working I enjoy game nights with friends, watching crime shows with my best friend, or hanging out with my spouse and two rescue dogs.
