About My Clients
Are you tired of being a prisoner of your past? Have you been reliving the traumas of your childhood through painful relationship patterns, unrelenting anxiety and constant patterns of disappointing yourself? I understand how difficult it can be to want so desperately to be different and unable to make that happen! I want something different for you. I've spent my entire career devoted to figuring out how to support people to be best at living in the present with the past as a quiet whisper.
My Background and Approach
The primary way I help people is through using EMDR. I had my first session of EMDR sometime back in 2009. It blew my mind! I was one way the day before that session and one way the day after. That healing is what I am always trying to recreate for my clients. It is a powerful tool to help in the places in which we get stuck in life. That can be a big T trauma such as child abuse or it can be something like a little t trauma such as that time your teacher called on you and the other kids laughed at you. A tool such as EMDR gives the brain the opportunity to work the natural way it should have in those first moments. It gives your brain a chance to heal. You will learn a great deal about how your brain has wrapped around those stuck places and through our relationship, we will uncover all the protective strategies that have crept up and continue to get in the way. We illuminate all the darkness together, giving you a real chance at living more freely from your trauma!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In case you haven't picked up on it, I believe in our ability to heal. I believe we all possess that ability and, where the modality is helpful in the healing, the relationship between helper and seeker is the most important aspect of change. Connection is truly the magic ingredient in the soup of any type of healing. I am here to unearth the wounds created by the patriarchy and as a feminist-informed therapist, I'm always looking for the undiscovered ways women have suffered as a result of the status quo. I am a strong ally to the LGBTQ community. I believe in kindness, compassion, and above all love. I know there are so many things that get in the way of love (especially fear) and I am giddy with excitement when I can help someone choose love over fear. Lastly, I love listening to the stories of others. When I'm not listening to them in my therapist chair, I'm reading a memoir or listening to a podcast. I cannot get enough of them, so bring them on!
