Discernment counseling is for mixed agenda couples: one person is seriously leaning out of the marriage and resistant to couples therapy, while the other is leaning in and wanting an effort at repair.
I have the highest level possible of training in Discernment Counseling and also provide training support and consultation for other discernment counselors.
Discernment Counseling is not just a service I provide; it is the focus of my practice. I am one of 9 Discernment Counseling Master Practitioners worldwide and offer training and consultation to other professionals. I work to see couples quickly and with respect for the sense of urgency couples feel when face with the possibility of divorce.
Reality therapy offers important guidelines for psychological health (both for individuals and relationships): 1) Stay in the present and look at current choices, not a long excavation of the past. 2) Emphasize personal responsibility: what are you doing now to get what you want? 3) Improve present relationships rather than blaming others or waiting for them to change.
In a world that so often honors the individual—independence, self-advocacy, and personal achievement— relationships still matter. I believe individual health and happiness rest not only on dedication to the self, but on the self in relation to other.
