About My Clients
I listed myself on this directory because I know, from personal experience, how difficult it can be to find a therapist that "gets it" when your relationships don't fit into someone else's mold. As someone once said, "Nothing human is alien to me."
My Background and Approach
My approach is humanistic and founded in attachment theory. Whether doing work with couples or with individuals, I prefer evidence based, proven techniques. I collaborate with clients to set goals for themselves in therapy so that we can measure our progress and make adjustments to our work when needed. I often integrate aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as it has been shown to be an effective short term therapy. For clients that have not gotten the results they want with CBT, I often transition to mindfulness. Mindfulness offers a method for improved self-regulation, and provides a path to better self-awareness. With greater self-awareness, it becomes possible to do the work necessary to address deeply rooted problems. Although there are many clinical aspects to how I work, the most important things I provide are a listening mind, relentless curiosity, deep caring and respect, and a willingness to be my authentic self.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Underpinning my work is my belief in “tribe” (family and community). Tribes come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors, cultures, flavors and configurations (I was raised in a multilingual and multicultural home). Our tribes shape how we feel, how we think, how we relate to others, and how others relate to us (sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, sometimes it’s hard to know).
