About My Clients
As a lesbian, I understand the importance of finding a therapist who has a foundational understanding of queerness. Seeking help can be a hard thing to do, and worrying that you'll have to educate your therapist can be an added barrier. With lived and professional experience, I offer queer individuals and couples a warm, non-judgmental environment to feel, bond, and heal.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is client centered and humanistic. I tailor treatment to meet individual needs and preferences, drawing from the Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) model when working with couples, and other modalities including narrative, DBT, ACT, and CBT with individuals. I hold a Bachelor's degree in creative writing from Bard College and a Master's degree in Social Work from Simmons University. I've had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including the restaurant industry, landscape and gardening, education, nonprofit, and private practice. I feel very fortunate to have landed in a career that suits me and nurtures different aspects of who I am: the writer with a deep appreciation for storytelling, the former server/bartender with no judgment and a dry sense of humor, and the person who felt at odds with herself for a long time before finding relief.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that therapy provides the opportunity to (over time) access your most authentic self, and I believe that when your authentic self is seen without judgment and held with care by a trusted person (the therapist), powerful change can happen. Being that trusted person is a responsibility I that I take very seriously, and I've committed myself to a lifetime of studying myself, people, and the therapeutic relationship. If you're reading this because you're considering starting therapy (again or for the first time), it would be my honor to join you wherever you're at. Give me a call for a free 15 minute consult and we'll go from there.
