As a seasoned Couples Counselor, Marriage therapist, and pre-marital therapist, I am grateful to have been able to help couples successfully build new stories for their present and future. It is a privilege to assist people from various backgrounds, cultures, and histories to work together toward collaborative change. I am a passionate narrative therapist, but I have 15 years of teaching Couples Counseling to graduates, drawing on other models such as Attachment Theory and EFT.

As a narrative therapist, I am interested in how our stories get told and how they affect how we see ourselves. I am curious how society, family, and injustices rob people of their most powerful identities. I have many years of experience collaborating with clients to move toward their hopes for liveliness, happiness, and self-empowerment.

When many of my clients arrive in therapy, they speak about anxiety, stress, worry, and overwhelm, which is often oppressive and debilitating. Our current world adds further to these challenges. As a narrative therapist, I collaborate with and support clients to shift their relationship to anxiety and move towards their strengths, greater calm, and empowered actions.

Lucy Cotter, MFT, has a wholehearted commitment to narrative therapy and a passion for helping individuals and couples find freedom from old stories. As co-founder of the Narrative Counseling Center in Los Angeles, I have spent years dedicated to narrative practices that look at how stories get constructed and how people can get the upper hand in creating new stories for their lives.
