About My Clients
My clients come in with "anxiety" or "trauma"; maybe from a recent event, maybe as a feeling of being constantly tired or overwhelmed, or maybe from an uncomfortable, frightening past that never seems to quite stay in the past or go away. They come in with things that they can't quite control, or feel they aren't controlling enough. Trauma, anxiety, dissociation as well as relational issues which may be impacted by some of those challenges are areas in which I can provide help.
My Background and Approach
I came to being a therapist late in the game, though I've always been someone that others have come to to talk. After years of working as an artist, a coach and in education as both a teacher and as an educator for those with special needs, I chose to draw on my varied experiences and became a marriage and family therapist. My methods are integrative, creative, and flexible...I see your individuality and tailor therapy to meet your needs and style. I use emotionally based modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Experiential Family Therapy, and also use more cognitive-behavioral interventions including mindfulness based CBT. I am trained in EMDR and use it often. I strive to research, learn and become further trained in those tools which will best help me to help you. I attempt to provide a safe, warm, accepting space to more openly explore thoughts and feelings about those things which might block you from living the life you would like to live.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I love people. I love their stories. And, I love their individuality. I believe that if you approach others with curiosity and kindness, you will understand that their differences from you are just another adventure in learning how much we all have in common and at the same time how many different, creative ways there are to see and participate in the world. Sometimes that feels like a risk to people. I also believe in taking risks.
