About My Clients

I work with individual adults around issues related to trauma. Together with my clients, I work to tailor therapy to their specific needs, so that they can make the most out of our time together. My clients don't need to have any previous experience or special artistic skills to do art therapy. They only need will to do it. Clients of any and all backgrounds are welcome here.

My Background and Approach

I received a MA in clinical mental health counseling and art therapy and a certificate in trauma counseling from Antioch University Seattle. I use a trauma lens in my work with clients, which essentially means that I believe that our actions, choices, and even mental health concerns intend to protect us from greater harm. Part of our work together is to recognize how we have been protecting ourselves and find other ways that can serve us better. I utilize artmaking in my practice, because art offers a gateway to deeper understanding, insight, communication, and healing. Art therapy is about the process, not the final product, and it can look like a stick figure, a simple square, or a complex and life-like image, depending on the client's choice. In addition, I utilize person-centered, narrative, and attachment approaches in therapy.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that people are remarkable in their ability to protect themselves from harm, even if it doesn't seem that way on the surface. I believe that therapy is a space to honor what we have accomplished alongside evaluating what works for us and what doesn't, and finding alternative practices that can serve us better. I believe in my clients' agency in determining what is important for them to explore and discuss, and I believe that it is my role to create a space of safety and non-judgement, to help my clients deepen their explorations and widen their perspectives, and to help my clients connect to their true wants and needs.
