Post-traumatic growth, a term meaning that, not only was a person resilient in their ability to heal from an adversity, but that they were actually able to benefit from an adverse event by growing their psychological capacity to empathize, reframe and thrive after trauma. As a trauma specialist, I aim to remember the beauty that can come after ugly things happen. Whether navigating through PTSD symptoms, anxiety/panic, life transition or identity issues, therapy can help find your strength.
My Background and Approach
Through an integrative mind-body-soul approach, I create an embodied space for you to heal your relationship with yourself and with the world around you. I love working with first-generation professionals, people who often show up for others before themselves, people who want to find confidence and balance in their sense of Self, and people who want to build inner trust and secure attachment. While my experience with parts-work (IFS) & ACT help to find compassion and non-judgement within internal conflict; somatic therapy, Brainspotting and the expressive arts techniques allow us to go beyond the cognitive brain to explore and heal old wounds held deep in the nervous system. I was awarded the Insoo Kim Berg Award for “Outstanding Contribution to Social Work Knowledge and Practice” by peers in 2018 and the “Community of Practice” Award by colleagues in 2019. I am currently living in San Diego, CA, licensed in DC, MD, TX, IL and CA. I have experience living in NC, DC, CA and abroad.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every person has an important inner voice, or a core Self. Life can sometimes dull that voice through the adaptive parts we have had to adopt in order to survive. In our space together, it's my mission to safely unravel the blocks and stuck points around that voice through supporting healthy ways of coping. When this inner Self feels safe and trusted, it's amazing what vitality can inspire. I have a personal interest in the power of nature and the spiritual oneness that can manifest in the recognization of our interconnection with the world. In acknowledging both the heavy and light of emotional experience, I believe in the ripple effect of healing and deconstruction of oppressive structures.
