My Background and Approach
I’m an eclectic therapist, meaning I pull from more than one modality and collaborate with you to determine what fits based on your values and goals. I am trained in EMDR, and am drawn towards working with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness. As a part of my personal and professional practice, I always strive to prioritize advocacy, social justice, and viewing trauma through a systemic, queer, and feminist lens. I align with a non-pathologizing approach to therapy. This means that I view “symptoms” as traits or behaviors that our minds and bodies have adopted to protect us from further harm. During traumatic experiences, often parts of ourself dissociate the mind from the body as a form of protection. While this helps us to survive in the moment, dissociation can happen long after the trauma has ended, keeping us out of the present moment, activating feelings from the past.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am honored to work with people from all walks of life, and welcome your unique identity. As a personal and professional practice, I always strive to prioritize advocacy, orienting towards social justice, and viewing trauma through a systemic, queer, and feminist lens. I acknowledge that cultural competency is not a destination, and commit to a lifetime of continued learning to best serve all people who may walk through my door. I strive not to make assumptions, and to meet you exactly as you are by working within your values and beliefs. I recognize that many individuals feel overlooked, disregarded, and discriminated against within this country’s mental health system. With this in mind, I have created a pricing structure to increase access.
