In my approach I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and exposure therapy—to the unique cognitive and emotional patterns of each individual. This includes accurately assessing underlying thought distortions, managing comorbid conditions, and integrating techniques like mindfulness, somatic regulation, and metacognitive strategies. I ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness and approach phobias/anxiety from a strengths-based lens.

In my approach, I incorporate culturally and gender-sensitive approaches that recognize how identity, social norms, and systemic factors shape a person’s experience of distress. I adapt different evidence-based therapies to align with the client’s cultural values, language, and worldview while addressing the unique pressures related to gender roles, discrimination, or marginalization. This includes fostering a safe, validating environment.

In treatment of acculturation stress, my focus is understanding of the emotional challenges individuals face while navigating between cultures. I focus on creating a supportive space where clients can explore identity conflicts, language barriers, and experiences of discrimination or isolation. Effective treatment involves validating these stressors, enhancing coping skills, and integrating culturally appropriate strategies that honor both the client’s heritage and their adaptation process.

CBT is an traditional evidence-based technique that I use with genuine compassion and understanding. My approach is active listening, validation of the client’s emotions, and fostering a trusting alliance, creating a safe space for clients to explore difficult thoughts and behaviors. By approaching cognitive distortions with empathy rather than judgment, I like to help clients feel supported and empowered, making it easier for them to engage in change.

Culturally sensitive therapy acknowledges and respects the client's cultural background, values, and experiences as central to the therapeutic process. I try to actively understand the client’s worldview, avoiding cultural assumptions, and adapting interventions to align with culturally relevant beliefs and practices. This approach fosters trust, enhances engagement, and supports more effective, individualized care.

In couples therapy, I enjoy using the Gotman method, which focuses on improving communication, resolving conflict, and strengthening emotional connection between partners. I prioritize a safe, neutral space where both individuals can express their needs and concerns without judgment. Techniques may include emotion-focused work, behavioral interventions, and communication skills training tailored to the couple’s unique dynamics.
