About My Clients

On the outside, it looks like you have it all together. But on the inside, it’s a completely different story. You’re always comparing yourself to others and feel like you never measure up. You want to turn down the volume on the inner critic that tells you that you’re not enough. You want to learn how to set boundaries without feeling selfish. Mostly though, you want to enjoy the life that you've worked so hard to build without second-guessing yourself at every turn.

My Background and Approach

My approach to psychotherapy is insight-oriented and relational. In a nutshell, my work is based on the belief is that the more we know ourselves, the more self-determination and choice we have. While most of my work with clients focuses on challenges they face in the here and how, I believe that we are deeply influenced by our early relationships and experience. I explore with clients how their histories shaped how they see themselves and the world and how those views may no longer serve them. At the same time, many of my clients are wrestling with anxiety or trauma-related issues, so I know that having concrete coping strategies is also important. I draw on my years'-long experience with mindfulness and Buddhism to help clients cultivate ways to find more inner stability and balance. I engage deeply with my clients and strive to form the trusting connections needed for them to show up as authentically as they can.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Although there are many therapeutic approaches that can help with life’s challenges, I believe that we heal through relationships. Feeling deeply seen and understood is essential to overcoming histories where needs were not reliably met or dismissed. I believe that our bodies and emotions are inextricably linked. Just as early experiences shape how we perceive and feel about ourselves and the world, they also shape our nervous system. I believe that even insight oriented therapy must include attention to how bodies hold and react to intense emotion and give tools to help regulate it. I believe that therapists cannot treat an individual without considering the impact of the society and culture we live in. I believe that we must look at the harm that systemic racism, sexisim, ableism, and homo/transphobia causes individuals and help them unlearn that.
