About My Clients
I help people get unstuck. Many of my clients feel like outsiders. I am trans-sensitive and also comfortable with LGB, poly, ace, and other romantic and sexual identities. I am white, and for white people who are interested, I offer a safe place to unpack white privilege, to replace internalized cultural programming and release it into new experiences of growth, fairness, and love. For non-white clients, I offer cross-racial counseling through a liberation psychology lens.
My Background and Approach
I want to know the ways you connect to the world, and the ways you feel disconnected. Your identity - gender, who you are attracted to, race and ethnicity, religion and culture and political beliefs - form your experience in the world. They are not all that you are, but I want to know you in your wholly unique way. If you struggle with relationships, anxiety, low mood, conflict, guilt, loss, shame - I want to understand it and be there with you to see if there is a way out of it. For those of you familiar with the psychobabble: My training and practice to date have been psychodynamic, with my primary orientation being attachment-based. You can expect me to listen until I catch something charged, and then invite exploration of the emotions behind it, to increase insight and awareness to what's driving your feelings. I will also ask how you're feeling in your body at times, to help you gain greater integration of experience. What we will work on together is how to experience more love.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people are inherently good, and that we're not made to suffer. I believe that suffering is important because it's calling our attention to what is wrong, and then once that is understood, relief is possible. I believe people can change - even you.
