About My Clients
I am on leave and will be scheduling new clients for August 2022. My clients are motivated but perhaps overwhelmed with how to start therapy or didn't have the best first therapy experience. They benefit from structure and a thorough, validating guide. They want to increase their self-awareness and gain insight as to how to take the first steps towards long-term change. They want to learn specific tools to manage uncomfortable emotions and appreciate an active and direct therapist.
My Background and Approach
Trained in DBT, I balance change-oriented approaches (skills building, behavioral analysis, and problem-solving) with acceptance, validation, non-judgment, mindfulness, and a healthy dose of humor and wit. I help people who feel stuck get moving (sometimes literally) through traditional psychotherapy, telehealth, walk and talk, and running therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Authenticity: It is essential for me to be real (strengths and flaws and all) and relate to you as an equal in our therapeutic relationship, with you as the expert on your life. Acceptance: It doesn't mean giving up or giving in. In order to make lasting change, paradoxically, you must first accept the reality of where you are and is often the first step of therapy. Transparency: I like to know the 'why’ of things, even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient. Getting you informed as to exactly what you’re investing in when it comes to therapy and working with me is my specialty, hence why I work with a lot clients who are new to therapy. I will orient you consistently throughout our sessions as to why we might do something and get your buy-in first. Non-judgment: I believe that our emotions, thoughts, and actions are understandable, if not justified. Practicing a non-judgmental approach gives us the validation and emotional space to do the hard work needed to make lasting change.
