About My Clients
Your relationship is in distress, as are you. You and your partner may be feeling disconnected from each other or experiencing a never-ending cycle of conflict and withdraw, dealing with the trauma of an affair. You want things to be better and yet what you've tried hasn't worked, maybe you've even given up.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (in Minnesota and Iowa) and a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist. I help couples and individuals to address concerns such as: communication issues, ongoing conflict or fighting that never seems to end or get resolved, recovering from an affair and other trust violations, blended family/stepcouple concerns, navigating serious illness such as cancer, trauma, and more. My first priority is establishing a good relationship with you, as one of the best predictors of therapy success is the relationship you have with your therapist. My approach is warm, curious, nonjudgmental, gentle yet direct. I don't ask "what's wrong with you;" rather, I am curious about what has happened to you in your life experiences. What we learn about relationships and ourselves early in life can establish patterns of how we are in relationships in adulthood. The good news is that you do not have to be a prisoner of your past - you CAN change. I will help.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I hold a systemic lens (meaning we are all part of a family/community system) and an attachment lens (meaning that humans are hardwired to be connected to significant others across the lifespan - healthy interdependence) in understanding of the human condition. Needing one another is normal and healthy; we get into predictable patterns of distress when we cannot access the love, support and care of our most important people.
