About My Clients
While you have your own innate compass for healing and have undoubtedly done important work towards self-growth, working with a therapist may improve issues in ways that solo work cannot. It could be that your coping strategies of yesteryear, as helpful to you as they were, just need some refinement. Or, maybe you need a new set of tools for the new challenges you face. Relational healing! We'll figure it out together. In my practice, I see adolescents, adults, therapists, and other helpers.
My Background and Approach
I graduated almost 20 years ago from the U of MN with a BS in Family Social Science. After a decade living in and exploring countries outside the US, I returned to MN for a MA in Marriage & Family Therapy. I value the relational, ecological, & systemic MFT approach to healing. My draw to this field of work was my passion for the right to safe refugeeism and immigration, and I continue to love supporting people in their pursuit of vitality in a new home. I believe a gauge for well-being is the quality of your relationships. Working with a therapist should not only transform the wounds accumulated during your lifetime, but also enhance your sense of belonging to the communities you trust. Our time together could include Brainspotting for stuck somatic experiences, re-considering your story from the non-shaming IFS framework, or drawing from other strength-based approaches that equip you for flourishing in the present and finding peace in your past.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I respect that therapy in an unjust world has its limitations. Together, we can develop resilience practices for life's tough stuff while also recognizing that if you were not suffering the emotional toll of discrimination in the workplace, for example, or watching a genocide unfold on your phone, there might not be any need for therapy in the first place. Mental health treatment, as it exists within the current medical model, is sometimes a more surface-level support that just helps you get through your day. Therapy can also be deeply healing: Trauma, pain, or loss may be a part of your story, but it's possible to cultivate a narrative where you flourish. All of this is why I love my work and find it exciting to be helpful. Change is possible! Some personal news: I found my dream volunteer gig. A prison book project; selecting books based on requests from inmates around the country. I love being around books and facilitating access to education, inspiration, and human connection.
