About My Clients
Many of my clients have Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, or other psychotic-spectrum disorders. They can do one-on-one therapy and/or join my Living with Schizophrenia group therapy. I help them learn symptom management skills, social skills, independent living skills, and general life coping skills. I also help them access resources like Social Security disability benefits, social workers, ARMHS workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, and housing specialists.
My Background and Approach
I have a PsyD (a doctorate degree in psychology similar to a PhD but with more clinical and less research focus) and a license to practice psychology in MN. I started my professional practice in 2003 but have experience working with people with Schizophrenia and other psychotic-spectrum disorders since my first undergraduate internship in 1993 at Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center for people with severe mental illness. I have worked in group homes, community mental health centers, and private clinics. I'm easygoing and see all my clients as people who have their own strengths, preferences, and opinions. I work with each client specifically on what they want to achieve and how they want to achieve it. I can use a variety of therapy styles depending on client preference and needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every person has a right to be respected and heard. I support the rights and empowerment of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and the LGBTQ+ communities. I work to fight stigma against mental illness, especially the significant misunderstanding that many people have of Schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses.
