About My Clients
You're capable and accomplished, and from the outside things look fine. Underneath, you may be running on empty, stuck in the same fight at home, or carrying anxiety that won't switch off. Many of the people I work with are executives, founders and professionals, along with their partners, who are ready to stop pushing through and understand what's actually going on. I see clients in person at our Hermosa Beach office and by telehealth anywhere in California.
My Background and Approach
I help individuals and couples notice the patterns that keep them stuck, build steadier ways of handling stress, and find more ease in their lives. With individuals, I draw on EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic approaches. With couples, I use the Gottman Method, Imago Relationship Therapy and IFIO, in weekly sessions or couples intensives that run a single day or a few days. I'm warm and direct, a deep listener who stays practical, so we keep our focus on what brought you in. I lead Lisa Chen & Associates Therapy, a group practice of licensed therapists and supervised associates. Our team also offers EFT for couples, CBT, and ERP for OCD, and includes Spanish-speaking clinicians.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I unexpectedly entered this field after a transformative experience with my psychoanalyst, whom I started seeing when I experienced feeling stuck in my career. In my own journey, earning an Ivy League degree and working for Fortune 500 companies taught me in the accomplishment of my highest professional goals, a sense of meaning and joy is derived from a relationship with myself, my partner, and my community. As a former corporate finance and Wall Street professional, I achieved success, and yet, felt empty and unfulfilled inside. Through my work with my therapist, I found freedom. Now, I work with others to help them break through destructive cycles and find ease in their lives. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and hold a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School.
