About My Clients
I work best with clients who are on the verge of something - a big dream, a shift in a relationship, an interesting job opportunity - and are thinking about jumping in, or not. The client I work best with knows themselves well, and is curious to know more. You want to dive deeper into how you work, what works best for you, and how you want to interact with others. You are driven and motivated for positive change, and have an inkling of how to do that, but are open to a different perspective.
My Background and Approach
I have been licensed as a professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania since 2009. Prior to private practice on my own, I have served in a variety of leadership positions with a number of nonprofits, always being the only woman of color around the table. While I have now carved out a space for myself, doing what I want to do and working with people I want to work with, those experiences are not lost on me. My approach in working with clients is one of curiosity and assumption free. I tend to create space where rapport is easily built and I like to ask questions and listen well to the answers. I am not afraid of silence, as sometimes big shifts happen when we are still, so there's space for that as well. I do operate from a trauma focused and social justice lens, and work in a way where clients are able to gain more from their past hurts and see how those traumas affect present day life. And because I am a woman of color, social justice concerns are very much welcome.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we have just one life, so we better make the most of it. I've tried to live with no regrets, and that has meant a divorce and finding love again. May it be so for all of us. I value relationships and for those who cherish them, they should be exciting and healthy and satisfying. I am a strong ally for the LGBTQ population and also for the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as women and minority owned businesses. As someone who identifies as a brown woman, I know all too well the struggle to be seen, heard, and validated. Those are things that should be given freely to all. And finally, while I still have a lot of questions, faith and spirituality are significant aspects of my life. With all that has happened in this short year, I have to believe that there is something better and more beautiful for us when we pass. That belief in a higher power has gotten me the hard days...that and a good red wine.
