About My Clients
Like joy, suffering is inevitable, but too many of us blame ourselves when our problems are actually bigger than us and beyond our control. Many of my clients have suffered with stigma around identity and social expectations, most have been through trauma of some kind. My clients often turn their anger inwards, be it through eating disorders or patterns of self-blame and doubt. I will help you challenge this tendency. Together we'll cultivate opportunities for self-compassion and presence.
My Background and Approach
Clients find me to be warm, non-judgmental and caring. In my anti-oppressive approach to psychotherapy, I acknowledge that your struggles are not due to personal responsibility and will implement an approach to therapy that will assist you in being kinder to yourself. I will support you as you learn to validate yourself and your experiences and in doing so, increase self-compassion, and decrease limiting negative beliefs. I have an eclectic approach to therapy, but operate from a fundamentally relational perspective. This means that although I have vast knowledge of evidence-based treatments to support you, I feel healing cannot occur independently of human relationships. I appreciate humor and unconventionality, because your life deserves a therapeutic approach as unique as you are!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that oppression contributes to most of the problems that my clients face. For example, it is difficult to heal from an eating disorder without understanding the impact that diet culture had on its development. For those clients that are neurodivergent, we might explore when and why you started to mask, so that you can better connect to spaces that allow you to be fully authentic. We might explore and challenge stigma around mental illness so that you can create the compassion that allows for you to heal from trauma or OCD. Overall, we'll explore the beliefs that limit you, the pressures that you face, and I will help you to be fairer to yourself in your appraisal of your suffering. These may be the first steps that we take in the healing process. Feel free to get in touch. I look forward to my role in your healing journey.
