About My Clients
I am committed to accepting all forms of Medicaid, because it is high time that EVERYONE has access to high-quality mental health care. I offer telehealth, so I can work with clients throughout the state of Michigan, but my mission is to offer services to low-income Detroiters.
My Background and Approach
Throughout my career, I have worked with many patients who have had ties to the criminal injustice system, and I have heard heartbreaking stories about police brutality and mass incarceration. I aim to advocate for people with serious mental health conditions, in order to help prevent them from being further traumatized by the legal system. Many people with serious mental health conditions also suffer from medical problems, such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. These health issues can negatively affect quality of life and emotional well-being, and many can be prevented or even reversed by healthy lifestyle behaviors. I am one of the only psychiatrists in the nation to become board certified by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Lifestyle medicine is the evidence-based practice of helping individuals adopt and sustain healthy behaviors that improve their well-being, such as nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, and mindfulness meditation.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe incarceration is ineffective, inhumane, and obstructs justice. I am deeply committed to serving victims of state violence, and I work closely with Wayne State University Law School, where I am a part-time student. I identify as queer, and my practice will always be a safe and affirming space for the LGBTQ community.
