About My Clients
My clients are insightful, wise, and eager to dig into self-growth and development. They are stressed by their awkward, shameful, or anxious relationship with money. They've tried the "personal finance stuff," but they feel bad when it comes to money. I flip the method of "learn about money and feel better" on its head. Instead, I work with my clients by digging into their relationship with money, eliciting the values that are important to them, and collaborating toward financial wellness.
My Background and Approach
I'm Lindsay Bryan-Podvin (pronouns she/her). I'm a biracial (Filipina-white) female social worker-turned-financial therapist, author, and speaker. As the first financial therapist in Michigan, I talk about money in a way that doesn’t make you feel gross. I hold a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Michigan State University. In Here are examples of topics addressed in financial therapy: * Anxiety about negotiating a raise at a current job * Inability to look at financial information such as bills, bank statements, retirement accounts, or outstanding debt * Worrying about saving, spending, or investing money * Have tried a budget or spending plan in the past with limited success * Procrastination on important financial tasks, such as creating a will, trust, or setting up retirement accounts * Experiencing “lifestyle creep” or “lifestyle inflation” when income has increased
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in social justice. The core values of Mind Money Balance are alignment, freedom, knowledge, empowerment, and clarity. Mind Money Balance stands against any form of oppression including, but not limited to, ageism, sizeism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, racism, antisemitism, sexism, and ableism. Personal finance and mental health are inherently intersected with politics, race, and gender. My goal is to cultivate a shame-free space to engage with money. I want all of my clients to feel powerful and abundant in their relationship with money and to feel comfortable bringing their whole selves into therapy and coaching.
