About My Clients
I have a lot of experience working with black and brown communities, as well as folks in the LGBTQ community. For my entire career so far, I have also worked with children and families including single parents and low-income families. Additionally, I have supported folks with various chronic health conditions including folks living with HIV, other autoimmune diseases, severe mental illnesses, and people who are neurodivergent.
My Background and Approach
In the first session we review confidentiality, boundaries, and discuss questions about the therapy process. We will do brief introductions and discuss what is bringing you in for therapy. I am very patient and give clients time and space to tell their story. I am also very flexible and understanding of the need to cancel sessions. Based on client's needs I integrate different aspects of theoretical orientations. Some of these include motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, internal family systems, and mindfulness-based practices. I focus on building strong therapeutic alliance because I think the relationship sets the tone the work we do together.
