About My Clients
People who work with me are often struggling to connect with themselves and others because of past experiences that continue to affect them. This may show up as constantly overthinking, self doubt or using strategies to survive that no longer feel helpful. Together we can look at how your past is still impacting you, embrace your emotions, explore your needs & values in relationships, set healthy boundaries, create a kinder relationship with yourself, and reconnect with your most authentic self.
My Background and Approach
I value a holistic approach and do my best to understand the unique experiences you have, intersecting identities you bring into the room, the systems you live in and how all those things show up in a therapeutic space. I approach every client from a person-centered approach utilizing a strengths-based, trauma-informed, womanist, and compassionate lens. I view the therapeutic relationship as the most important factor in counseling so I use a laidback approach that values an authentic, relational, and trusting approach. Feedback and collaboration are extremely important to me, as you are the expert of your experience. I regularly check in to make sure therapy is helpful for you. Therapy with me looks like diving deep, using humor, connecting with your body, gaining insight and self-awareness, & learning tools to navigate distress, so that you can begin to take steps towards growth and healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that healing happens in community and with support so I have a robust network of resources, support groups, & other health specialists. My clinical work is heavily influenced by my belief that all humans deserve access to culturally responsive, identity-affirming, collective trauma-informed mental health care. I want to recognize that many individuals with marginalized identities have experienced harm in therapy, which is why I readily invite your feedback into the room and constantly challenge myself and my biases. While social justice and anti-oppressive values guide my work, I am committed to the ongoing journey of doing better, both personally and as a therapist. Regardless of whether or not I seem to be the right fit for you, please reach out. I am happy to connect you with resources, provide referrals, and try my best to support you.
