About My Clients
I love working with folks who are feeling unsettled, scared, stuck, unhappy, unseen, resentful, or unfulfilled. Maybe you're at a crossroads and you don't know how to move forward. Maybe you're in a situation that's not feeling right, and you're trying to figure out how to change it. Or maybe you're hoping to heal from something past or present that has caused you harm. I love working with folks who want to explore what’s going on, try out new strategies, and seek lasting, meaningful change.
My Background and Approach
A lot of my philosophy comes from what I’ve learned through meditation--especially that struggle is universal and that bringing kind, non-judgemental curiosity to our experience can help us connect with our deep wisdom, heal wounds, and bring about a greater sense of trust, groundedness, clarity, and ease. From this approach, I often work with folks around the thoughts & sensations that arise in mind/body and cultivating self-compassion. I am also strongly influenced by anti-oppressive practice, which brings to light the power imbalances within and among our communities, cultures, and world that affect our well-being. To this end, I work with folks to identify and minimize the impacts of harmful social dynamics like racism, homophobia, transphobia, gender inequality, and so on. I draw on the Anishinaabe medicine wheel as an approach to restore balance to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual realms, and I also make use of some narrative and cognitive-behavioral strategies.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of the consequences of meditation practice that I've really valued is finding myself letting go of the idea that there is such a thing as good people and bad people (and along with that, the notion that we need to constantly be evaluating and proving ourselves). Through my practice I have come to believe we all carry a deep wisdom within us that can guide us toward words and actions that feel right and meaningful. I believe we all have the capacity to treat ourselves and others with love and care. And I believe we all have the capacity for growth and healing. As a therapist I am drawn to approaches that encourage us to trust and listen to our deep selves. I don’t tend to find diagnostic labels useful, and I don't really believe in "fixing." I'm much more interested in knowing what your experience is and what aspects you would like to see change, and in working with you to find a path to that change that feels right to you.
